Modernism 101: Underground Above The City

In 1954 John and Marjorie Fairchild began construction of an unusual house on an empty lot on a hillside a few miles west of Boise. They eventually moved in to their home, but when John died in 1974, he was still working on it. In Underground Above the City: John & Marjorie Fairchild's Rammed Earth House, historian Elizabeth Jacox tells the story of a unique house and the two dreamers who built it.
